Geologic and Hydrologic Controls on the Distribution, Diversity, and Activity of Subsurface Microbial Life Hosted in Gabbros and Peridotites in the Samail Ophiolite, Oman
This study utilizes shotgun metagenomic sequencing to define microbial community composition, diversity, and function across a broad range of measured geochemical conditions observed in serpentinite aquifers to elucidate geochemical and lithological controls on the energy availability and productivity in aquifers undergoing low-temperature water/rock reaction.
